KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government will prioritise the people’s health amid the Covid-19 pandemic by taking it into consideration when calling for the 12th State Election.

“There are many people who argued whether Sarawak can or cannot call its state election due to Covid-19; we take note of this and we understand.

“We know health is more important than calling for an election but our term is about to expire. The mandate is almost over, if there is no mandate, then how are we going to manage the disaster when there is no government?” he asked.

Abang Johari said for Sarawak, it is now trapped between a rock and a hard place, but regardless the state government would have the people’s best interest at heart.

“We will assess the situation; but regardless we in Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) have to prepare for the election to be called anytime,” he said.

He was addressing the PBB Southern Zone mini convention held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on Sunday.

The chief minister lamented the politics happening in Malaya which some regarded as being repulsive.

“In Malaya, they are still fighting among one another due to power, what kind of politics is that?

“Their politics have no regard for the people, we in Sarawak are prioritising the people through our politics,” he said.

Abang Johari said Sarawak supported Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as it wanted a stable federal government.
