KUCHING: The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) has formed a special wing called Pergerakan Belia for members aged between 18 to 28 years in line with an amendment to the party’s constitution.
PBB president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the new wing will serve as a platform for the party to train new leaders, beginning at an early age of 18 years old.
“First, it will introduce them to the rational ways of politics. Second, it will also allow them to witness continuous development being implemented from time to time,” he explained.
He said this during a press conference after his winding up speech at the PBB 15th Triennial General Meeting (TGM) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.
The Premier asserted that the new wing would be able to provide vast experience for its members.
Aside from that, he said they would also be equipped with prudent political background prior to entering the Youth or Women wing.
“When they are at the youth level, of course they will already have extensive experience in terms of the intricacies of politics as well as having politics as a platform for them to contribute towards the development of society as well as the development of the state and country as a whole.”
Abang Johari added that it will also give them proper exposure to the ways of becoming prominent future leaders.
“Because it is not easy to lead without good prior experiences.
“And therefore, this new wing will ensure a better future for Sarawak and the country,” he added.
The initiative was first announced earlier this year when Abang Johari said the party was adjusting itself to the aspiration of the young as well as all Sarawakians at large according to the current political situation and economic policies.
He stressed the importance of having stability across the board and that the interest of every group must be addressed in order to move forward.
