SIBU: Pesta Rakyat Durin 2022 will help to strengthen and reinforce the spirit of unity, brotherhood, friendship, and sense of belonging among the people throughout the state, especially in Durin, said Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

The Dudong assemblyman also noted that the festival can foster the interest of local people in venturing into the business field even if it starts with a small business.

“I hope that the organisation of this kind of programme will bring changes and benefits to the local community, especially in terms of economic growth, which will further develop Durin,” he said.

The Bintulu MP said this in his speech read by Councillor Joshua Ting at the opening ceremony of Pesta Rakyat Durin 2022 on Saturday.

Tiong also took the opportunity to remind the public not to be negligent when attending parties and gatherings by prioritising standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“Don’t ever forget let alone ignore the SOP steps and practices encouraged by the Malaysian Ministry of Health (KKM), especially with the emergence of new variants of COVID-19.

“Therefore, I remind the public who come to witness the excitement of the various events provided throughout the festival to always practise and adhere to SOPs for the safety of their families, community, and their own,” he said.

At the end of his speech, Tiong also announced an allocation of RM200,000 for the project to beautify the Durin and another RM60,000 for the Pesta Rakyat Durin 2022 expenses.
