KUCHING: The Petra Jaya Hospital is expected to be open in 2024 following the appointment of a new rescue contractor, said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

“A new contractor has been hired and the work to complete the remaining parts of the project began last January,” he said.

According to him, the construction needed some time because the new contractor would need to clear out the equipment left behind by the previous contractors.

He added that some site cleaning works were also required such as clearing the parking area which was affected by flood.

Khairy commented on this during a working visit to Sarawak General Hospital on Sunday (Sept 26).

“With the present contractor and resumption of construction, we anticipate the Petra Jaya Hospital to be operational in 2024,” he said.

The RM378 million Petra Jaya Hospital which began construction in May 2013 was originally scheduled for completion in November 2016.
