KUCHING: The country’s oil and gas company, Petronas has brought cheer to a poor family and a senior citizen living in Bintulu in conjunction with Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak celebrations.
The family of Mohamad Ismail Ahmad, 43, and Sedi Kedit, 80, were among the 1,200 recipients of the Petronas ‘Sentuhan Kasih’ programme to help ease the burden of the less fortunate in Sarawak.
“The programme is part of the corporate social responsibility conducted by the Petronas Foundation which aims to improve the quality of life of more Malaysians and support the economic development of this target group,” Petronas said in a statement.
Mohamad Ismail who lives with his wife and three children in a small house with no electricity and water in Kampung Baru, Likau, Bintulu had not planned to celebrate Hari Raya this year due to their deteriorating living conditions following the enforcement of the movement control order (MCO).
“My family and I had no plans to celebrate Hari Raya this year because we could not afford it,” said Mohamad Ismail, who works as a security guard at a workshop in Bintulu.
Sedi who was fondly known as ‘Indai Man’ has been living alone, since her husband, Juti Digat, died about four years ago was touched by the aid she received from the Petronas delegation who visited her at her residence at Batu 36, Jalan Bintulu-Miri.
“For the past two years, I have not celebrated Hari Gawai as I live alone. That’s why I’m so grateful and touched by Petronas’ kind gesture that has brought me joy during this festive season,” she said. – Bernama
