MIRI: The Sentuhan Kasih Yayasan Petronas festive programme has returned aiming to bring joy and happiness to 1,500 less privileged Malaysians nationwide this Chinese New Year.
From January 15 until February 8, Yayasan Petronas is collaborating with state agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and volunteers from Petronas to hand out basic necessities, household items and ang pow (monetary gift) to assist families in need.
Volunteers will be taking part in communal work with members of the communities while ushering in the Year of the Rat.
Yesterday, the entourage visited Miri Hospital and distributed Chinese New Year goodies to patients at the palliative care ward.
Also present were state Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Miri Mayor Adam Yii and Miri Hospital’s director Dr Jack Wong.
At this year’s programme here yesterday, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd Sarawak Oil senior general manager Morris Mail said, “We hope to fulfil the needs of less privileged Malaysian families and individuals and put smiles on their faces this new year through the Sentuhan Kasih Yayasan Petronas programme.”
A Petronas volunteer Bastiah M Nazri said, “I believe even a small act of kindness can impact the lives of those in need and, therefore, make their celebration more meaningful.”
The Sentuhan Kasih Yayasan Petronas programme is part of the foundation’s community wellbeing and development focus area, initiated to coincide with major festive celebrations in Malaysia. It provides an avenue for Yayasan Petronas to work with communities to provide for their basic needs and wellbeing.
