KUCHING: Sarawak-owned Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) has handed over a donation of RM300,000 to Yayasan Jantung Sarawak.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the donation was an additional fund to procure the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine for Sibu Hospital.

“The MRI machine costs RM2.02 million and the accumulated funds as of December 1 amounted to RM2.04 million.

“Thus, I really appreciate the chairman and chief executive officer of PETROS who decided to give an additional RM50,000, which increased the allocation from RM250,000 to RM300,000.

“This is the spirit of Sarawak who come to help one another,” he said when met after the presentation of a mock cheque from PETROS to Yayasan Jantung Sarawak at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, on Friday.

Dr Sim, who is also the foundation’s deputy chairman, said Sarawak Heart Centre had recommended the machine for Sibu Hospital after the existing machine could no longer be used.

‘The machine is expected to address the immediate needs of Sibu Hospital in providing MRI treatment to patients throughout the central region of Sarawak which includes parts of Mukah, Sarikei and Kapit,” he said.
