Reactions to federal government’s decision to appoint community leaders in Sarawak

KUCHING: Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah has slammed federal Rural Development Deputy Minister Sivarasa Rasiah for his statement that the federal government would appoint its own community leaders in the state.

“This goes to show Pakatan Harapan (PH) is planting seeds of discord and disunity from the highest level,” she said.

She reckoned that the policy announced by the minister would disunite the people of Sarawak who are currently peaceful.

“The unkindest cut of all is… there is plain disregard for the Malaysian spirit,” she said.

On Sunday at the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak annual general meeting (MATC), Sivarasa said the federal government would appoint its own community leaders in the state.

He said the mechanics will be ready by January next year after discussing the details at the ministerial level.
