Dr Yii and Yong pay last respects.

KUCHING: MP Kuching Dr Kelvin Yii and Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong paid their last respects to the latest rabies victim Rianni yesterday afternoon at the Hng Nam Siang Tng.

Rainni, 62, from Pending Heights flat, was attacked by a stray dog while going back home from work as a maid in a residential area in Pending.

According to her son, her mother loved dogs and the strays in the area recognised her.

But that day in May, a stray she used to pet was aggressive and she was trying to chase it away when it bit her hand.

She was brought by her family members to a 1Malaysia Clinic at Muara Tabuan where she was given a rabies vaccination jab.

However, her condition worsened and she was admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital on June 8.

She passed away last Wednesday at 10.47pm.

Her son said his mother will be buried on Saturday morning (today).

Rabies has claimed 18 victims since its outbreak two years ago on June 2017. In Sarawak, all areas are declared infected with rabies except Limbang.
