KUCHING: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysian (Bersatu) Sarawak is now a new member of Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the state.

PH Sarawak, a coalition of Democratic Action Party (DAP), Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah),  welcomes it, said PH Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen after attending the four-coalition’s first party meeting at the DAP Headquarters here yesterday.

Chong, who is also the Sarawak DAP chairman, said during the meeting, they had formed PH secretariat and that two persons from each party were selected to be its members.

“The meeting was fruitful and long; we laid out our plans and strategies for the coming state election,” he said.

Asked on the seat allocations, Chong said the party would ensure that there would be no more three-cornered fight, and that only one component party would stand in a constituency.

In the 2016 State election, DAP and PKR contested for the same Batu Kitang state seat.

“On the allocation of seats, it is still in process and will be decided at the next meeting.

“But we will project a united front… We will go as one entity as PH and will take on the four coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the coming election,” he pointed out.

As for now, Chong said the party’s main objective was to focus on the cooperation among its four parties.

“Our focus is also to help to implement the national policy that is beneficial to the rakyat,” he said.

Each of the over 20 ministries, Chong said, had policies that could benefit the people of Sarawak.

Meanwhile, Bersatu Sarawak Interim Secretary General Jaziri Alkaf Abdillah Suffian said currently there were 31 Bersatu branches in Sarawak, and as of Feb 2019, there were 18,700 registered online members.

“At the meantime, we do not have a chairman yet and the Bersatu Supreme Council will decide on that,” he said, adding that Sarawak PH would be holding its convention within  two months’ time.
