KUCHING: Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen welcomes the ongoing investigations being carried out by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on several ‘big fish’ personalities in Sarawak.

He said this in relation to MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya’s statement on July 12 in which she confirmed that there are indeed cases involving high profile individuals in Sarawak.

“I think Sarawakians have waited long enough for these investigations to be carried out and to be concluded, and for those found suspected of having committed corruption to be charged in court and brought to book,” said Chong in response to questions posed during a press conference held at Democratic Action Party (DAP) headquarters here, yesterday.

The PH Sarawak chairman added that he had lodged reports on several ‘big fish’, but he would not reveal how many.

“We leave it to MACC to do their job,” he said.

When asked about his previous complaints towards MACC, he explained, “Basically it was the general performance under the previous MACC chief. That is why we are glad we made the complaints, and soon enough the MACC chief was changed and we see some positive outcomes from our complaints.”

“And now actions have been taken,” Chong said contentedly.

He also stated that changes as promised by PH may not happen as swiftly as the people hope or expect, but he offered assurance to Sarawakians that such reforms are definitely coming.

“Slowly and steadily, it is happening. And with that, I think we can see hope in our country,” he concluded.
