KUCHING: Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak coalition parties are meeting tomorrow (Sept 2) to discuss strategies for the impending 15th general election (GE15).

Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen said following the appointment of Roland Engan as the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak chairman, the scene is now set for PH Sarawak to meet and discuss the direction of the opposition coalition.

PH Sarawak comprises DAP Sarawak, PKR Sarawak, and Parti Amanah Negara (AMANAH) Sarawak.

“With the recent cabinet decision to bring forward the tabling of Budget 2023 to Oct 7, rumours are rife that GE15 will be held in November.

“The coming GE15 is a very important for the future of the country. Therefore, it is important that PH Sarawak come up with strategies as soon as possible for it,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 31).

On the imprisonment of former prime minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Abdul Razak for criminal breach of trust, Chong said the question is whether he will serve his full term or be “pardoned prematurely” will depend on the results of GE15 to a large extent.

“Also, whether the other Umno VVIPs who are facing charges in court will see their charges withdrawn or otherwise will depend also on the outcome of GE15.

“More importantly for the people and country, whether the reforms started by the PH government after the GE14 will be continued also depend upon the outcome of the election.

“Will the country revert to the old UMNO days or move forward with more systemic reforms? If Barisan Nasional (BN) wins in GE15, we will likely see the country reverting to the old days of UMNO supremacy and corruption,” he added.
