PULAU BRUIT: More than 6,000 residents North of Pulau Bruit expressed their happiness when the first phase of 7.9km Pulau Bruit road project costing RM15 million from Kampung Penuai to Salah Kechil is open to the public starting yesterday morning.

The simple road opening ceremony was officiated by Member of Parliament for Tanjung Manis, Datuk Hajah Norah Tun Abdul Rahman at Jambatan Baharu, Kampung Betanak here.

She said the opening of the rocky road (jalan raya berbatu) for the public was because the construction has been completed since last week.

“We are very grateful because the first phase of the road construction has been completed according to schedule.

“The residents of Pulau Bruit can take advantage and use this road from Kampung Penuai, Betanak to Salah Kechil.

“The construction of this road will directly boost development in this area, particular Pulau Bruit.

“In addition, two bridges are also completed, namely Kampung Penuai Bridge and Betanak Bridge through the project.

“At the same time I am very grateful to the Federal Government for approving fund for the construction of this road,” she said.

Norah also announced that the Federal government has approved RM29 million for Phase 2 of the Pulau Bruit road project from Kampung Tekajong to Salah Kechil.

“In the last Parliament sitting, the Federal Government through the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (MRRD) has provided the allocation for the road connectivity of the entire north of Pulau Bruit.

“Tender for the road will open in September this year and construction is expected to start early next year.

“With the completion of the second phase of the project all roads in Pulau Bruit will be connected and its resident will also be connected to areas outside the island,” she said.

Among those present were officials from the Public Works Department Mukah (PWD), Daro District Office, heads of Departments and local community leaders.
