MIRI: In Malaysia pickleball and floorball sport may not be as popular like badminton or hockey but the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) saw that the two sports have bright potentials in diversifying the players’ skills.

“We believe and are optimistic that pickleball and floorball could help diversify players skills in other sports such as badminton, hockey, ping pong and tennis,” SSC sports development division manager Ahmad Rodzli said.

The skills that players gained via their training programme in pickleball and floorball help develop their skills for other similar sports, he added. “In fact, pickleball and floorball are the best platforms for us to unearth new talents not only for the sports but others such as badminton, tennis, hockey or even ping pong,”Ahmad added.

Citing an example of two floorball players from Sarawak who represented the national floorball team to the recent SEA Games in the Philippines, Ahmad said both were former hockey players.

“With similar skills, they diversify their knowlege and develop advanced skills,” he said during his brief visit to a workshop conducted on pickleball here.

Pickleball is a sport which is a miniature version of tennis.

It combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong while floorball is a type of floor hockey.
