SIBU: A three-member gang’s pickpocket spree at Jalan Lanang Health Clinic finally came to an end when they were arrested by the police.

Sibu OCPD ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the trio of two locals aged 47 and 52 together and a 52-year-old Bugis from Indonesia were nabbed by police in an ambush.

“We took action following reports lodged by three victims who lost their wallets on the same day while seeking treatment at the clinic,” he said.

The victims, who comprised two retirees, aged 63 and 76, and a 45-year-old shop operator, claimed that they lost their wallets which contained their identity cards, driving licenses, ATM cards and money totalling RM380 to pickpockets.

“As there was no CCTV in the clinic or any eyewitnesses, we laid an ambush to nab the suspects,” he said.

ACP Stanley also advised the public to be careful with their belongings as pickpockets are now on the prowl in view of the upcoming festive seasons.
