Pillion rider dies in three-vehicle accident

PADAWAN: A pillion rider succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment after he was run over by a car in a three-vehicle collision along Jalan Batu Kitang here, yesterday (Dec 4).

Mohamad Nur Fazrul Mohamad Happy, 22, died at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the accident involving a Yamaha motorcycle, a Proton Wira and a Perodua Kenari, happened around 11 am.

The motorcycle, ridden by the victim’s 45-year-old father, was en route from Bau to Mile 7, Kota Sentosa.

“Their motorcycle went out of control and collided with the right rear end of a Perodua Kenari, which abruptly stopped due to another vehicle in front of it preparing to turn at the Batu Kitang Water Plant intersection.

“The impact resulted in the victim’s father and the motorcycle being thrown onto the left lane, while the victim was thrown into the opposite lane, causing him to be run over by a Proton Wira travelling towards Bau,” he said.

Abang Zainal said the victim was rushed to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatmen. hHowever, he was pronounced dead at the emergency ward at 3.52 pm by the attending medical officer.

Meanwhile, the victim’s father and the Proton Wira driver escaped injuries.

The Perodua Kenari driver, on the other hand, fled the scene of the accident and efforts are underway to locate the driver to assist in the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
