KUCHING: The first ever champion of Unity Cup Table Tennis Open Teams Championship (Kejohanan Ping Pong Terbuka Berpasukan PialaPerpaduan) will be crowned from the 42 teams that are competing in the tournament this weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

The 42 teams were split into 10 different groups, with four teams were each drawn in Group A to Group H and five teams each featuring in Group I and Group J.

Each group winners and runners-up will move on into the knockout rounds that will be held on Sunday (March 5) where the inaugural champion will eventually be crowned here at Kuching Youth and Sports Complex Hall.

Participants trying their best in the competition with the aim of moving into the next round that is set to be held on Sunday.

The champion of the tournament will be awarded RM1,000 along with medals and the Unity Cup while the runners-up will be walking home with RM700 along with medals.

Both of the semi-finalists that lost in the top four bouts will bag RM400 and medals each while the teams that lost in the quarter finals will be bringing home RM200 each.

The tournament was co-organised by the Darul Barakah Table Tennis Club alongside STAF UNIMAS Table Tennis club, with Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin being the main sponsor of the tournament where he contributed RM6,250 on December 28, 2022 to organise this event.
