KUCHING: The list of candidates that will be fielded by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak in the upcoming state election will be finalised next month.
Its chief Larry Sng said the party is preparing for all eventualities on when the state election will be held.
“In the eventuality that the election is called, we will be ready. By next month, most of our candidates will be finalised.
“Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak will be working closer than before, and in most, if not all, seats we expect a three-cornered race,” he said in a Facebook post last Saturday, adding that they will introduce new faces.
Sng said the recent spike in cases in the state may have dampened any plans of calling the state election as early as March.
“Any speculation of an early election is nothing more than wishful thinking at this point in time,” he said.
The Julau MP said, realistically, the only window for the state election is to go for a full term and call the election in June or July, possibly together with the general election.
On the rising number of cases and deaths in the country, Sng said the only possible solution is to quickly administer the vaccine to the people instead of another lockdown which would cripple the economy further.
