DALAT: Mukah already has niche and plans in place to help further develop the districts in the division.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said there had been plans to develop all the areas in Mukah division, and Dalat is one of the districts.

According to him, when the infrastructure is upgraded it would bring many benefits to the division, just like Dalat and Oya, which are integrated.

“Development also involves education and when we set up Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) in Dalat, it is to be in balance with Politeknik Mukah and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Mukah Campus,” he told reporters after officiating at Dalat Waterfront and BazaarNita Fatima Dalat ceremony at the waterfront here on Saturday (Dec 19).

He explained that Centexs would focus on technology to help produce skilled manpower required in developing and transforming the economy.

Abang Johari added Centexs could teach on technology especially Physic and Chemistry, which are much needed for development.

On the development of sago industry in Mukah division, the chief minister said he had ordered Craun Research Sdn Bhd to develop downstream activity, to make use of sago waste which could produce other products.

He added firstly, what happened in Kampung Teh, Mukah was the water coming out from the sago mill was treated and become clean, secondly, we could produce waste from the wood to become fertiliser for livestock, and thirdly, we also could derive gas to produce methane to be used as cooking gas, and all these were the result of research.

Abang Johari said if all these could be one, this would become our new effort for Dalat areas.
