MIRI: An elderly man died after being crushed by a four-wheel-drive (4WD) that he was travelling in following a freak accident in an oil palm plantation estate in Ulu Kerabak, on Monday.

The 60-year-old man, identified as Enchana Langi, died on the spot in the 7.10am incident.

Meanwhile, four others including the driver escaped with minor injuries.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Superintendent (Supt) Alexson Naga Chabu said the police and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene after being alerted.

“Before the incident, Enchana and four others (including the 4WD driver) were heading for the plantation estate from Rumah Tinggang in Sungai Keleku to spray pesticides around the oil palm plantation,” he said.

Unfortunately, the vehicle skidded as it went down downhill and rolled over before landing on its side.

“All three passengers at the rear were overthrown. Enchana ended up being crushed by the vehicle,” he said.

Alexson said the actual cause of the incident was still being investigated but investigators believed a faulty brake could be the cause.
