Plantation worker killed in motorcycle collision

SIBU: A plantation worker died while three others were injured in a collision between two motorcycles in Jalan Ladang Rantau here on Sunday (Sept 19).

Sarawak traffic police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the victim was identified as Atina, 41, from Indonesia.

Investigations found that the accident occurred around 1.15pm on a hilly road — both motorcycles were travelling in opposite directions.

“Prior to the collision, the victim and her 36-year-old compatriot were coming from the Ladang Rantau entrance heading towards Jalan Tutus.

“When arriving at the hilly spot, their motorcycle collided with another motorcycle ridden by two other plantation workers aged 18 and 19.”

The victims were rushed to Sibu Hospital. Atina suffered severe injuries to her head and was pronounced dead around 3pm.

Her compatriot suffered minor injuries. Meanwhile, the 19-year-old suffered brain and lung haemorrhage as well as a fractured shoulder.

The 18-year-old, who was riding pillion, suffered a broken left leg and a fractured right jaw.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
