KUCHING: Twenty Indonesian oil palm plantation workers, quarantined earlier in the week, have tested negative for the Covid-19 virus.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas confirmed this at a press conference held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here on Friday.

“All the samples were negative, but they are still kept in quarantine in Kota Samarahan.

“We want to keep them quarantined for 14 days to make sure.

“Before the period ends, there will be another test just to be certain that they do not have the virus,” he said.

On March 24, the Indonesians, all working at a plantation in Sri Aman, were reported to have experienced Covid-19 symptoms such as coughing, fever, breathing difficulties and sore throat.

They were immediately sent for check-ups and Covid-19 screening.
