KUCHING: Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall is taking preventive measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.   

Its public relations and partnership manager Leovell Sam Avenido said, “Each individual’s hygiene is important to us. That is why we have placed hand sanitisers at each entry point of the mall to remind the people to sanitise their hands.

“Apart from that, effective today, we have thermometer checks for all of our staff and after the checks, we will give them a sticker that states, ‘I am fever free’.

“This is done to show all visitors that we are doing our best to monitor our staff’s health,” he said when met yesterday.

The shopping mall is also encouraging its visitors to have their temperatures checked by the management team.

Sam added the management began sanitising the elevator buttons, hand rails, escalator hand rails, automated teller machines (ATMs) and others every two hours.

“Since last week, we have been extensively sanitising the toilets and floors in the shopping mall to make sure the areas are clean.

“We have also placed signs reminding the people at of the right way to wash hands and the prevention methods.

“And every one hour, we are making public announcements to remind the visitors to practise the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.” 

Sam added two events that were scheduled to be held yesterday and today had been postponed after the State Disaster Management Committee’s directive to postpone events involving mass gatherings of more than 250 participants.
