SIBU: Pelita Maslaut Sdn Bhd (PMSB) has trained approximately 21,000 sailors since its establishment 24 years ago, said Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine.

Royston lauded PMSB for its efforts and deemed the training institution as a source of pride for Sarawakians as it was the only maritime academy in Sarawak that had achieved such excellence.

“Congratulations to PMSB on its excellent and commendable record over the past 24 years. We hope that this academy will continue to thrive, consistently achieving success to ensure that the youth of Sarawak, especially, can build a promising career as seafarers,” he said.

He made these remarks at the bpassing out ceremony for 58 Marine Engineering Rating and Marine Deck Apprentices at Lakis Hall here today(Jan 8).

Royston also said that PMSB was appointed by Yayasan Sarawak last year to collaborate with Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS) to conduct Sailor Courses in Mukah starting this year.

“This initiative will be a stepping stone for the expansion of PMSB’s role in creating opportunities for many more youth from Sarawak to engage in maritime activities,” he added.
