GPS entreat to join charter

KUCHING: It is unnecessary for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to join in the formal charter between Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN), said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing.

He said but there must be an iron clad understanding on the newly formal charter to join hands and work on any good policies that are good for Malaysia.

“When the general election comes, PN, BN and GPS must support each other. Inter party contest among the three must not be allowed.

“In short, PN and its spirants cannot contest in Sarawak state seats, nor can Sarawakian contest in any seats in Malaya,” he said.

He said this is response to the statement by PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin on Friday, who had proposed a formal charter spanning PN, Barisan Nasional and GPS to ensure they jointly contest in the next 15th general election.

Masing, who is also the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president also said however the formation of the formal charter depends on PN and BN.

“If they feel such that formal charter is good for Malaysia political stability, why not!.

“Political government is formed to establish social and political stability, this is so that businesses can operate and people can live in peace,” he said.

He said that if these two two objectives are achieved, there is no reason why PN and BN cannot be together for the betterment of Malaysia.
