KUCHING: Perikatan Nasional (PN) has proven itself to be an attentive and caring government despite being in power for just a year, said Plantations and Commodities Deputy Minister Datuk Willie Mongin.

He noted that there is no such thing as a perfect government but it is evident that PN is all for helping the people.

“I am fortunate to have experienced two different eras of government but I must admit that each government has its strengths and weaknesses. The PN government is very committed in helping the people and you can see it for yourself.

“Various types of assistance have been given to the people, especially to those who have lost their jobs as well as companies that are forced to cease operation during this Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

The Puncak Borneo MP also mentioned that projects that were cancelled under the ruling of Pakatan Harapan (PH) had been reactivated.

“When I was an MP under PH, we were only allocated RM500,000 during the first year. How can you serve your constituency of over 200 villages with that?

“That was then, but now, you can come to my office to see the list of projects for Puncak Borneo that we had brought to Parliament.

“In politics, you might want to retain your pride and principle but if your people suffer, what is it for? We join politics to help the people, it is simple as that,” he added.

When prompted for his comments on Julau MP Larry Sng’s resignation from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and shifted allegiance to PN, he said the move was good for the constituency and people.

“I think there are benefits to his pledge of support to the PN government. With this, I believe PN would surely provide allocation and assistance for the people in Julau.

“For me, it is not a problem because it is for the betterment of the people. I do not wish to see the Julau MP and his people get ridiculed because they are our friends,” he said.
