Police arrests man for allegedly trespassing into political party’s office

KUCHING: Sarawak police have received two reports of criminal trespass into a political party’s office at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce recently.

It was understood that the suspect, who is a middle-aged man, has since been detained by the police for further action.

The suspect, believed to be unsound, had allegedly entered the office and took the party’s cap and shirt before he was told to leave by the office’s staff.

A police spokesman for the 15th General Election (GE15), Supt Douglas Nyeging Taong in a statement, confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass.

“Aside from that, we also received a police report in Bau regarding a party’s election flags and banners being vandalised.

“The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing loss or damage to another individual’s property,” he said.

All political parties are advised to remind their supporters to not go against the law but to continue and maintain the peace and harmony in the state.

Douglas added that as of yesterday (Nov 7), Sarawak police have approved a total of 144 permits for political parties to hold their campaigns and political talks throughout the state.

To date, there were no reports of untoward incidents received during the talks and campaigns.
