KUCHING: A case involving four personnel who were killed in a shooting incident at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) complex in Kota Samarahan, recently has raised questions on the actual cause of the incident.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail in addressing this, said police are still waiting for forensic investigations to be carried out on the victims’ phone to find the root cause of the amok incident.

“We are still waiting for the forensics report related to the phones seized from the victims and suspect.

“We sent the phone to Bukit Aman Forensics Unit to investigate if the contents of the phone can point us in the direction of finding the cause of the incident,” he told a press conference at the Kuching district police headquarters, here on Wednesday (Sept 22).

Aidi pointed out that the case in itself was a sensitive issue as it involved the lives of four uniformed personnel.

“We will look into the contents and history of all the phones to see whether there is a fight, an argument or any issue that could have triggered the incident,” he stressed.

He added that the police had also taken statements and recordings from witnesses at the scene as well as from friends of the victims.

“However, we cannot give a decision yet (on the cause of the incident) as we are still waiting for reports from the forensics unit,” said the police commissioner.
