MIRI:  Miri police have busted a car theft syndicate dubbed “Lakia Teck” gang with the arrest of four men during a two-day operation held recently.

Besides the arrest, police also seized seven stolen vehicles including a motorcycle estimated to be worth around RM200,000.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, when disclosing this during a press conference held yesterday  morning, said the suspects, all locals, were nabbed early this month (Jan 4 and 5) in various locations in the city as well as in Long Lama, Marudi.

“The group has been actively involved in the activity for the past six months prior to their arrest,” said Lim at the press conference held at Miri Police headquarters here.

All suspects have previous criminal records, he pointed out.

“Their modus operandi was stealing vehicles from the city area and selling them to interior areas such as oil palm estates,” he said.

He added  those stolen vehicles were being sold for around RM12,000 and above.

“The condition and brand of each individual vehicle would be the deciding factors to determine its selling price,” the local police chief said.
