MIRI: Police are looking at all angles in their investigation to ascertain the cause of death of a diver, whose body was found floating at a dive site in Miri-Sibuti Coral Reefs National Park last Sunday (April 18).

Miri police chief, ACP Hakemal Hawari said so far, there were no criminal elements involved, and they were looking into the technical aspects of the incident.

On Wednesday, the controller of National Parks and Nature Reserves, Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) issued a closure notice of the Miri-Sibuti Coral Reefs National Park until further notice.

It is understood that the closure of the national park is to facilitate police investigation into the death of the diver.

Last Sunday, the body of a male diver, 34, with the surname ‘Ling, from Sibu, was found floating by his friends at the dive site.

Prior to the incident, at around 12pm on April 18, the victim together with 25 other people had gone diving at the site.

The first dive went smoothly after almost 30 minutes and they all went up to the surface before they continued with the second dive.

Unfortunately, during their second dive, the sea suddenly turned rough.

All of them managed to get into their boat, except for the victim, prompting them to look for him. He was eventually found floating not far from the site.
