KUCHING: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in the state wants to inform the public that a drill will be held during the launching ceremony of the 14th “Op Selamat” in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festival in Siburan on Jan 29.

The drill will illustrate an armed robbery in the town with three robbers holding a manager of a company hostage.

Meanwhile, in an incident at Siburan bazaar yesterday morning, residents were terrified by a series of gunshot sounds.

The shooting went viral on social media with video footage of the incident.

Three robbers were seen fleeing the crime scene in a vehicle heading to Kuching and chased by the police.

Shots were fired by one of the robbers at the police.

The incident received several responses from netizens, with some asking what’s happening to a peaceful state.

The shooting spree which lasted several minutes only stopped after the police killed the suspects.

But it was somewhat an “anticlimax” when residents later found out that it was only a drill.
