LUBOK ANTU: Six illegal immigrants from Indonesia were apprehended by police for illegal border crossing.

Lubok Antu district police chief DSP Victor Ripon in a statement today said, a local man in his 40s was also arrested as he believed to have brought in the illegal immigrants into the country.

Victor said the illegal immigrants and the local man involved were detained at KM 2, Jalan Entugam.

“All of them were detained in a roadblock carried out in conjunction with Ops Benteng at 6am on Tuesday.

“Officers on duty detained a black compact vehicle coming from the direction of Jalan Batu Kaya in a suspicious condition.

“Further inspection found that there were six passengers including a woman in the vehicle,” he explained.

He added the six illegal immigrants failed to show any valid identity documents and passports to the police.

They were later arrested together with a local man, and were taken to the police station for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Victor said, his men would continue to eradicate such illegal activities in this district which is often a hotspot for smuggling illegal immigrants from Indonesia to Sarawak.

He also advised the public not to get involved in any syndicate to bring illegal immigrants here just to get extra cash, adding that severe punishment awaits any culprit.
