SIBU: Police are searching for the mother of a newborn girl found abandoned near a banana tree at Sibu Jaya here last Friday.
The baby with her umbilical cord still intact was found by a 45-year-old man while he was about to throw his rubbish outside his house at 9.30am that day.
Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit yesterday said that the police are still searching for the missing mother to enable investigation to take place under Section 317 of the Penal Code for concealing birth.
“The baby is reportedly in a healthy condition where she is still under observation at the Sibu Hospital,” he said.
Stanley sought public information on the identity of the mother.
