KUCHING: Security and public control have always been the police’s main priority as the lead agency in ensuring the compliance of Covid-19 prevention standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Police are also assisted by the People Volunteer Corps (Rela), local authorities and other enforcement agencies, says district police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah.

He was asked for his comments following two viral photos of people crowding one of the stations at the Covid-19 One Stop Centre (COSC) at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Community Hall.

“We are currently looking into the allegations of public congestion at the COSC, which had gone viral in a Facebook group page called ‘Sarawak Covid-19 Awareness Group (Public)’.

“At the moment, there are a total of 14 policemen and two officers stationed at the hall to control the public’s movement.”

Police are also assisted by 20 Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel, 12 Rela members, and four MBKS enforcement personnel.

In addition, 160 staff from the Ministry of Health are also on duty at the community hall to ensure SOP compliance.

A Facebook user by the name of ‘Andi Sapli’ uploaded the photos and claimed that security personnel did not prevent people from crowding at one of the COSC stations recently.
