KUCHING: Police made a gruesome find when they came across the decomposed body of a tenant in a house at Jalan Song here, on Thursday.

Kuching district police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said the victim was a 51-year-old vegetable supplier who had been renting the house the last 12 years.

The body was found in a bathroom. His personal belongings as well as some medicines were found at the scene.

Police initially received a call from a neighbour around 9.05am, saying a dog had died in the compound of the house owned by his employer.

“The owner tried to contact the victim but to no avail. The owner of the house asked us to come over to the scene to investigate.

“Upon entering the house we smelled a foul odour emanating from the upper floor of the house.

“Our officers along with medical officers and firefighters went upstairs and found the victim’s body in the bathroom,” he said in a statement.

Awang Din said the body was sent to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) morgue for further action while, the carcass of the dog, a German Shepherd, was sent to the veterinary laboratory in Muara Tuang to determine the cause of death.

“The cause of the victim’s death is still under investigation where the body will be subjected to Covid-19 screening before an autopsy can be performed,” he said, ruling out foul play at the moment.

The case is classified as sudden death for the moment pending outcome of the autopsy.
