MARUDI: An integrated team comprising Immigration Officers and police from the district headquarters headed by ASP Mohd Ruslan Mat Kib raided a rented house located near Tuo Pek Kong here on Wednesday night.

Three local men and two Indonesian women were taken to the Marudi Police Station for further investigation.

Urine test results showed that a 39-year-old Chinese man from Kampung Cina and two Indonesian women, aged 23 and 33 years from West Java were found to positive on drugs.

The two Indonesian women who did not have any valid travel documents were detained under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

An integrated operation led by ASP Mohd Ruslan and Inspector Visvanathan also carried out a series of raids on cyber cafes, skynet and entertainment centres the same night.

In a separate raid, a 60-year-old Chinese man was arrested in his shop for possessing and selling firecrackers and fireworks.

Among the items seized were 14 Glory of Sunset firecrackers, 15 Whistly Moon Traveller firecrackers, seven Board firecrackers, two Crazy Bang firecrackers, five ball firecrackers and four Retardy Contone firecrackers.

The man was arrested under Section 8 Explosives Act, 1957.

During the integrated operation, roadblocks were set up at BSPTD. A total of 40 vehicles – 15 motorcycles, 10 cars and 15 lorries/vans – were inspected. Six summons were issued for various traffic offences.

According to Baram District police chief, DSP Gabriel Risut, the integrated operation will continue to combat crime, drug abuse, as well as gambling and prostitution activities in order to educate the community on respecting traffic laws.
