KUCHING: Police nabbed a man in his 40s for possessing drugs worth RM558 by the roadside at Jalan Foochow 1Y here last Thursday.
District deputy police chief, Supt Merbin Lisa said the district’s narcotics police acting upon public information, managed to arrest the man around 10.30am.
During inspections, the team found eight plastic packets, containing crystalline lumps believed to be syabu, in the suspect’s pants.
“The suspect and the drugs weighing 5.58g, were taken to the police station for further actions.
“Investigations found that the suspect obtained the drugs via bank-in from a distributor in the district,” he said, adding that efforts to locate the distributor are on-going.
Merbin added that the suspect, who has three previous records, tested positive for drugs.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a jail term up to five years and whipping upon conviction.
