Police officer charged with raping detainee

KUCHING: A police officer was charged in the Sessions Court here today with raping a female detainee in April last year.

Junaidi, aged around 30, pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 376(2)(f) of the Penal Code, read before Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman.

According to the charge, he was accused of raping a 23-year-old woman detainee with the victim’s consent, which the accused allegedly obtained using his authority as a police officer.

The accused was alleged to have committed the offence at the Commercial Crime Investigation Division Office of the Padawan District Police Headquarters (IPD Padawan) on April 16, 2022.

If convicted, Junaidi could face imprisonment of not less than ten years and not more than thirty years, and may also be liable to whipping.

The court allowed the accused to be released on bail of RM10,000 with a local surety.

Afidah set October 5 for case management.

The prosecution was conducted by Iezzah Iburdanisha Ibrahim, while the accused was represented by lawyer Lim Lian Kee.
