KUCHING: A police officer is suspected of shooting his wife dead at a house in Kampung Kakai in Serian on Sunday. A police report on the incident was lodged by the victim’s neighbour at 3.32pm.

The neighbour, Laurence Michael, an auxiliary policeman, said he was sleeping at his aunt’s house when he heard a gunshot at around 3.15pm. The report said the victim’s mother, known only as Medelin, ran over to his house and alerted him that her daughter had been shot by her son-in-law, believed to be a police inspector.

Laurence then went over to the house and found the victim lying motionless on the floor.

The body was later sent to Serian Hospital for a post mortem. Serian District Police chief, DSP Aswandy Anis confirmed the incident.

He said the suspect, who fled the scene via a police car, was detained in front of a supermarket at Jalan Matang here at 9.35pm. Aswandy said the suspect’s weapon and bullets had been confiscated and he did not resist arrest. Meanwhile, State Police Commissioner, Datuk Mazlan Mansur will be holding a press conference regarding the incident today in Miri.
