SIBU: Four security personnel escaped alive after the police patrol car they were in caught fire at Jalan Sungai Assan-Jalan Paradom intersection here yesterday.

The State Fire and Rescue Department operations centre despatched firemen from Sibu Fire and Rescue Station to the scene after receiving an emergency call on the incident at 8.50pm.

Upon arrival, the team found the patrol car on fire and four security personnel of the police, army, Civil Defence Force (APM) and People’s Volunteer Corp (Rela) managed to get out to safety.

No casualties were reported during the incident and the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

On the same night in Bintulu, a rental room at Jalan Tanjung Kidurong was engulfed in flames around 7.30pm.

A team of firemen was despatched to the scene after receiving a distress call regarding the incident.

Investigations found that two male occupants managed to escape unharmed during the incident.

The fire was extinguished at 7.59pm and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
