Police pick up hammer-wielding amok

MIRI: A 23-year-old man, who ran amok while wielding a hammer in a house at Lutong on Tuesday morning, has been detained by the police for questioning.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the suspect’s 41-year-old mother reported the incident to the police as she feared for her safety.

“The motive of the incident has not been determined yet as investigation is underway,” he said.

The suspect was detained around 3.15pm that same day for further investigations by a team from Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Meanwhile, in Piasau Utara, police apprehended a 30-year-old man for questioning after he threatened to kill his own son.

The arrest was made after the suspect’s brother filed in a police report over the incident.

Both cases were investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for Criminal Intimidation.
