Police probe drowning of toddler

KUCHING: Police are investigating into the drowning of a toddler who reportedly fell into a river near the family’s house in Kampung Muara Tebas, on Wednesday evening.

Kuching district police chief, ACP Ahsmon Bajah confirmed that his department received a report on the incident.

“The case so far has been classified as sudden death (SDR) and a thorough investigation is underway,” he said when contacted.

The 20-month toddler was found drowned, after falling into a river near the family’s home.

According to a family member, the toddler’s mother noticed that her son was missing from their home at about 6pm.

The victim’s family then immediately searched for the boy and after about an hour of searching, they found him floating not far from the house.

The parents then rushed the victim to the Sarawak General Hospital where he was confirmed dead.

It is understood that the victim fell from a bridge outside the family’s house while the water in the river was rising.
