Police probe fatal crash for reckless driving

SIBU: Police are currently investigating a fatal accident that occurred along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman here yesterday (Mar 5), attributing reckless driving to the cause of death.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement, confirmed that investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The tragedy unfolded around 11.17 am when a pick-up truck, driven by a 35-year-old man, lost control and collided with a tree along the roadside.

“The driver, who sustained severe injuries to his body, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Meanwhile, three passengers, aged four, eight, and 12, sustained minor injuries,” he said.

According to a report by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), firefighters from Sibu station responded swiftly and employed hydraulic rescue tools to extract three victims from the vehicle.

The deceased and two children were rescued from the vehicle, while another victim, believed to be the eldest child, was ejected from the vehicle due to the impact of the crash.

Bomba said the injured children were promptly transported to Sibu Hospital for urgent medical attention.

The body of the deceased was taken to the hospital morgue.
