KUCHING: Police are investigating the death of a man who was found in a parked car with an unconscious woman in the Batu Kawa New Township on Monday (May 17).

Padawan deputy police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong, when contacted, said the car was parked in front of a convenience store.

Members of the public reported the discovery to the authorities around 6 pm.

Police and the Batu Lintang firemen arrived at the scene at about 6.50 pm and proceeded to break the car window to unlock the doors and bring the individuals out.

“Police found that the car’s engine was still on and that the man was leaning against the car window.

“After bringing them out, the woman aged 38, regained consciousness and was taken to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment,” said Lim, adding that the woman’s condition was now stable.

But the unconscious man, identified as Vong Diing Lian, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene by SGH paramedics. The body was later brought to the hospital for further action.

Investigations found there were no signs of foul play at the scene. The case has been classified as sudden death and it is still under investigation.

Lim added that in the car, police found eight cans of beer and no other suspicious object or substance.

“Prior to the incident, a witness saw Voon exiting his car around 4.30 pm and staggering to a supermarket like a drunk person.

“He was also seen falling down several times while walking. The witness said Voon did not enter the supermarket. He only stood still in front of the supermarket for about 30 seconds before going back to his car.

“As the witness was closing his shop, he saw Voon’s car was still parked and went to inspect it as he feared that something unwanted had happened.”

Lim added that the witness tried to wake the woman up by knocking on the window but to no avail.

Meanwhile, closed circuit television (CCTV) footage at the scene showed Voon arriving at the scene around 3.10 pm. He visited a convenience store and then went back into his car.

Lim said after the woman arrived at the scene in an unidentified vehicle around 3.19 pm, she entered Voon’s car. At about 4.20 pm, Voon shifted his car to face the main road.

The Padawan deputy police chief said Voon had been married for 12 years and was the father of two children.

According to Voon’s wife, her husband does not have any chronic illness and debt issue.
