MIRI: Police seized 368.8 grammes of ecstasy with an estimated value of RM19,000 following the arrest of a 32 year-old local man in a house at Boulevard Garden housing area here on Monday night (September 26).

According to Miri district police chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the suspect is suspected of being involved in distributing the prohibited substance.

“The arrest was made by a team of Narcotics police from the Miri police headquarters during a raid carried out around 8.30pm,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Upon further inspection on the house, police discovered a brown coloured box inside a room which contained several plastic packets filled with suspicious-looking powder believed to be ecstasy.

The suspect has been remanded for six days until October 3. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty.
