KUCHING: A total of 880 police personnel from the Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD Kuching) will be on duty for the 12th Sarawak Election (PRN12).

Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the preparation included nine stations in the Kuching area with a total strength of 983 members.

“However, the number will be increased by 150 from other elements such as the Police Training Centre (Pulapol), Marine, Air Operations Force (PGU) and General Operations Force (PGA).”

ACP Ahsmon disclosed this to the media at a press conference at the Tabuan Jaya Police Housing Complex here on Thursday (Nov 4).

He added that Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail also approved the roping in of external assistance, namely the Police Volunteer Force (PVR).

“We are also planning to use the services of the Volunteer Corps (Rela) in certain assignments later.”

In total, he said IPD Kuching would mobilise 1,781 personnel, including external assistance, for the state polls.

He added that IPD Kuching was also cooperating with the Kuching Division Health Department  as they ready themselves for PRN12.

Before this, ACP Ahsmon visited the housing complex to observe the Covid-19 booster vaccine programme, where a total of 503 police personnel received their shots.

He said the two-day booster vaccine programme, which started on Nov 3, was the first stage for the police force.

“So far, only 503 people are eligible to get the booster vaccine out of the 983 personnel.

“This is due to the fact that there are a handful of personnel who have health problems, and also waiting for the period to be eligible to receive this booster vaccine.”
