KUCHING: The police are reasonable and will permit certain exceptions with regard to the ‘one person, one car’ limit imposed during the movement control order (MCO) period, said Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang.

He said as long as genuine reasons were given, the police would use their discretion to assist as much as possible.

“I know there have been cases where a son has had to drive his father to attend a hospital appointment, and the police allowed both of them to do so,” he said.

On the enforcement of the ‘one person, one car’ policy in the Padawan area, he said it was going well thus far.

“I believe that the police are doing a good job,” said the Batu Kitang assemblyman.

He stressed that it was necessary for people to stay at home as much as possible as this was the only way to break the Covid-19 chain.

“The ideal would be that everybody is disciplined and do not need the police to be so strict as to impose such a ruling and to punish offenders severely,” said Lo.

He said that many cars were still seen on the road despite repeated appeals by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for everyone to stay at home.

Earlier, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail had said that the ‘one person, one car’ limit would be strictly enforced during the MCO period.
