MARUDI: The police here have re-classified a case involving a 30-year-old foreign worker of an oil palm plantation in Bakong, who was injured after an alleged fight with another worker on May 6, as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code after he died on Monday (May 10).

Marudi police chief DSP Jo Hang said the victim, identified as Mohd Kasya Bambang, from Indonesia, died at 1.10pm while receiving treatment at Miri Hospital.

He said the case was initially investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

Around 5pm on May 6, the victim fell unconscious after a fight with the 45-year-old suspect, who is also from Indonesia.

“The fight was due to a misunderstanding between the suspect and the deceased over a job description about the exact amount of fertilisers he was supposed to spread on the oil palm trees,” said Jo today (May 10), adding that the police have released an image of the suspect and are on the hunt for him.
