Liew shows the police report filed against Yong

KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Central has lodged a police report against Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong regarding her video postings on Facebook.

Liew Leong Yee, SUPP Youth Central assistant secretary, accompanied by SUPP Youth Chief of Kuching branch Eric Tay, lodged the report.

Liew said there were two video postings on Yong’s Facebook page where she stated that the Sarawak government had used the people of Sarawak as “guinea pigs” by using expired COVID-19 vaccines as booster doses.

“Such statement is baseless and untruthful as the Federal Ministry of Health, National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NRPA), and the Sarawak government had come out with several statements clarifying that the manufacturers of the vaccines had extended all the expiration dates of their respective vaccines.

“Thus, the booster dose vaccines have not expired and are effective,” Liew said in his statement yesterday.

Liew, who is also the SUPP Batu Lintang Youth chief, alleged that Yong’s statement had created public disorder, fears and worries among the people of Sarawak at large.

Many people had refused to go forward to receive a second booster dose due to her untruthful statements and this had hindered and jeopardised the efforts of the Sarawak government in combating COVID-19.

Consequently, the lives of people and the safety of society are at stake,・Liew said, adding that the police report was made so that the issue could be investigated.

In the videos posted on Yong’s public Facebook page on April 28, she questioned the validity of the booster doses.

“Why give expired booster shots to Sarawakians and make Sarawakians guinea pigs?

“Can Dr Sim Kui Hian as the Minister in charge of health matters in Sarawak explain it?” she asked.
