KUCHING: Police have ruled out foul play in the death of a 16-year-old in girl who committed suicide after netizens voted for her to end her life via an Instagram (IG) poll.

Padawan district chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, when contacted yesterday, said the post-mortem conducted at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) revealed that the victim died of head injuries and the case remained classified as sudden death.

Preliminary investigation revealed that there were no criminal elements or signs of physical abuse.

It was reported that the teenager jumped from the third floor of a shoplot at Batu Kawa New Township on May 13.

According to Aidil, the girl might have felt stressed after her step-dad married a Vietnamese woman in Singapore. Apparently, both the step-father and his wife rarely returned home.

The victim’s body was found by a man at around 8pm and he immediately reported the incident to the Batu Kawah police station.

While the man was making his report, the victim’s brother and her Indonesian mother stumbled upon her corpse when they returned home after dinner.

Prior to the incident, the girl had created an IG poll which read: “Really Important, Help Me Choose D(Die)/L (Live)” and allowed the netizens to decide her fate at 3pm. Sixty-nine per cent of her followers chose D (Die).

She also posted on Facebook that she was tired of life. Her Facebook posting read, “WANNA QUIT (MY) F**KING LIFE, I’M TIRED.”

Further checks by police on the victim’s mobile phone found that the girl had also posted a heartfelt WeChat message to her friends in Chinese before taking her own life.
